One of the two men recently captured on CCTV camera robbing a woman in Kampala has been arrested as he tried to attack police officers during an operation to arrest his gang members.

In a video that went viral on social media last week, two gang members cornered a woman near Public Service in Kampala and hit him on the head before running away with her bag.

However, according to Police spokesperson, Fred Enanga,  Wandegeya Police last week responded to a street robbery at Chez traffic lights along Sir Apollo Kaggwa where they surrounded a group of thugs who were armed with pangas, knives and sharp objects.

The thugs were targeting pedestrians, bystanders and passengers on motorcycles whom they robbed of their belongings.

“The gang members were cornered and ordered to surrender. They refused and instead charged towards the officers with their pangas,” Enanga said.

“The officers discharged bullets in the air in vain and were forced to shoot to main tow notorious suspects who almost hacked two police officers.”

According to the police spokesperson, consequently, the two injured gang members were taken to Mulago hospital for treatment from where they succumbed to the injuries.

He identified one of the dead as a notorious gang member known as Vincent Ssekynazi, alias Taata Topi, 28 who was wanted for a serious of robberies in the city including the one at Public Service, and of a Chinese national near Sheraton Hotel.

Enanga said the second body was not readily identified since it didn’t have any identification documents on it.
